According to the press service of the Poltava Oblast Prosecutor's Office, SBU officers, together with prosecutors, detained the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Poltava Oblast, Police Colonel Petro Blazhivsky.

He is accused of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: extortion and receiving an illegal benefit.

It was also reported that $18 in cash was confiscated from the detainee at the scene of his arrest. During a search of his apartment, an additional $20, €6, and almost 900 hryvnias were seized, totaling approximately $1,5 million. Investigators are currently preparing a motion to remand the detainee into custody.

The press service also reported that investigators from the prosecutor's office and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) established that, after his appointment, the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Poltava Region Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) demanded monthly "contributions" from his subordinates for the purpose of illegal enrichment. Each unit manager was required to pay the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate sums ranging from $1000 to $4000.

Earlier, an anonymous letter addressed to Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, signed simply by "personnel of the Poltava Oblast Traffic Police," surfaced online. In it, the regional traffic police officers requested that "the penny-pinching Blazhivskyi P.I. be dismissed from his leadership position because his demands will soon lead to the entire Poltava Oblast rallying." Blazhivskyi's arrest occurred on December 28, but the details only emerged recently.

The traffic control website also reported that Petro Blazhivskyi paid 650 hryvnias for his appointment. Mykola Gorbonos paid 800 hryvnias for the post of head of the Kyiv Oblast State Traffic Inspectorate. Mykola Makarenko paid a similar sum for the Kyiv Oblast State Traffic Inspectorate. Maryan Blazhivskyi (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast) paid 800 hryvnias; former head of the Desnyansky District State Traffic Inspectorate Viktor Nekipeliy (Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast) paid 500 hryvnias; former head of the 13th Kyiv MREO Vitaliy Bondarenko (Mykolaiv Oblast) paid 500 hryvnias; and Petro Blazhivskyi (Poltava Oblast) paid 650 hryvnias. This was previously reported, and apparently, this article greatly angered the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate, Anatoly Sirenko. He even considered suing Road Control, but never did. As can be seen, the information published by DK was completely confirmed. Clearly, Anatoly Sirenko could not have been unaware of the extortions of his subordinate, Pyotr Blazhivsky, and it's possible he took a cut.
