One of the largest fitness club chains, Sport Life, with branches in all major cities, is evading taxes by violating labor laws. Sport Life, the largest fitness club chain with branches throughout Ukraine, including in Odessa, is evading taxes by violating labor laws.
This was reported on Thursday, September 25. "Hromadske TV".
Sport Life is the largest and most well-known chain of fitness clubs in Ukraine, with branches in major cities, including Odesa. The founder of the Sport Life group of companies is Dmitry Ekimov, a businessman of Russian descent with an American passport. The chain of clubs is known to be constantly expanding; there are currently thirty-two of them. However, as Hromadske TV reports, no more than 10 percent of the staff has been officially employed. The remaining employees are not formally employed by the company.
"Each club has a little more or a little less, but on average, it's around 50-60 people. That's the total number. Of these people, about five are officially employed," said Alexander, a former Sport Life employee who served as a personal trainer.
Moreover, according to another former employee of the Sport Life network, Bogdan, labor law violations occur not only in Kyiv clubs but also in other regions.
As the expert explained to the TV channel's journalists, the reason the management of the Sport Life fitness club chain refused to legally employ its staff was tax evasion, specifically tax evasion for the single social contribution and personal income tax.

It's worth noting that many companies use this scheme to violate Ukrainian law in order to avoid paying taxes. For example, unscrupulous employers pay their employees in "envelopes," avoiding official employment.
Moreover, according to Hromadske TV, the Sport Life fitness club chain is underpaying approximately 4 million hryvnias in taxes per month.
As a reminder, there are two fitness clubs in Odessa that belong to the Sport Life chain, one of which opened in April of this year.
