A misalliance with the daughter of former Kharkiv governor and Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Maselsky in 1992 taught the future oligarch how to network and connect with the right people. This helped Yaroslavsky establish a family connection with Yulia Turmanskaya, a relative of second President Leonid Kuchma. This profitable alliance began the development of his business empire. Yaroslavsky gained control of new enterprises and also gained political influence, the video emphasizes.
For example, with Kuchma's help, he obtained a stake in Kyivstar. In 2003, he participated in a corporate dispute with the Russian Cherny brothers over the Kremenchuk Oil Refinery, playing a key role in removing the company's foreign investors from management. Having achieved such heights, Yaroslavsky can afford a marriage of love – his third wife is currently the second vice-Miss Kharkiv, Marina Sventitskaya.
As a reminder, Oleksandr Yaroslavsky ranked seventh in Forbes' 2015 anniversary ranking of the richest Ukrainians, surpassing even current President Petro Poroshenko. It appears that neither the economic crisis nor the war in the country have had any impact on his net worth, which stands at $774 million.
At the same time, as some Ukrainian media outlets report, Yaroslavsky maintains close ties with Russian businesses, with whom he jointly owns one of the country's most important strategic facilities – the Kharkiv airport, which the businessman leased for 49 years for Euro 2012.
Even such close ties to Russia don't prevent oligarch and former president of FC Metalist Oleksandr Yaroslavskyy from maintaining influence in Ukrainian politics. Incidentally, in May 2014, he attended the inauguration of President Petro Poroshenko. Currently, under the auspices of the Kharkiv billionaire's DCH Group, a series of presentation forums, Ukraine: Just Business, are being held to enhance Ukraine's investment and business attractiveness in Europe. The first series of forums began on April 15, 2015, in Prague, and the second took place on April 27 in Warsaw.
