The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine accused the Agro company of a hostile takeover of the Novoaidar grain elevator of the Khlib Ukrainy state joint-stock company in the Luhansk region. This was reported in a statement by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food's press service.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy's report states that the company has been illegally using the elevator's capacity for five years. Igor Kobelya, director of Khlib Ukrainy, noted that in 2011, his company signed an agreement with SPF Agro, a private enterprise belonging to Oleksandr Yefremov's group. Under the terms of the agreement, Agro was supposed to inject additional investment into Khlib Ukrainy. However, the investor seized the state-owned enterprise, dismissing the management and the entire elevator staff of approximately 100 people. The raiders then used the elevator's capacity to develop their own businesses.
According to Igor Kobely, since 2011, the Novoaidar elevator has lost approximately 73,9 million hryvnias.
In turn, Valery Kravtsov, director of the Novoaidar elevator, who was appointed by the private enterprise SPF Agro, stated that armed men acting on behalf of Luhansk Oblast Governor Georgiy Tuka cut the locks on the company's warehouses and began removing grain.
