On the "Groshi" program, journalists explained how oligarch Kurchenko stole three billion hryvnias and fled Ukraine unhindered.
As is known, a week ago, Kyiv's Pechersky District Court unexpectedly unblocked the accounts of former First Deputy Prime Minister Serhiy Arbuzov. At the time, the Prosecutor General's Office (GPU) defended itself by claiming the accounts were frozen immediately and that the former prime minister's funds were still intact. However, we previously reported that members of parliament reacted with great distrust to the incident.
But the lifting of the freeze on Arbuzov's accounts isn't the most significant scandal of the past year. A more significant one is the stolen two billion hryvnias. The prosecutor's office suspects this sum may be in the account of former deputy head of the National Bank, Borys Prikhodko. He was accused of committing this financial crime and was even arrested. However, as we have learned, Prikhodko was quietly released a few days ago.
The scheme by which Prikhodko siphoned off state funds is as follows: The Agrarian Fund issued bonds to Brokbusinessbank. Brokbusinessbank received UAH 2 billion from the National Bank in exchange for the bonds. This money, instead of going to the Agrarian Fund, ends up in an unknown location.
Prikhodko was arrested for these manipulations with state funds. An entire press conference was even dedicated to this arrest. Six months later, after everything had calmed down, Prikhodko was released on bail of 200 million hryvnias.
The next defendant in the state funds embezzlement case is Serhiy Mamedov. He was also considered one of the "family's" main bankers. Mamedov was even considered for the post of NBU head under Yanukovych; he was very close to Arbuzov.
Mamedov was tasked with monitoring banks as the head of an independent banking association, which included more than 100 banks. He later became the chairman of the board of the state-owned Ukrgasbank. On February 14, Ukrgasbank provided Kurchenko's Brokbusinessbank with a loan of 673 million hryvnias. After Kurchenko fled, the money disappeared with him. Ukrgasbank also transferred 30 million hryvnias of state funds to Kurchenko's shell companies, Kvanta-Costa, 20 million hryvnias to Neosintez LLC, and 5 million hryvnias to Krimbutangaz LLC. All of this was done hastily, before the "family" left for Russia.
As a result, oligarch Kurchenko is in Moscow, his money has also been taken away to an unknown destination, and Mr. Mamedov carefully conceals his whereabouts; it's difficult to reach him by phone or meet him. And the people of Ukraine are left with bankrupt banks and billions in debt from the country's former leaders.
