Journalists from the "Facts of the Week" television program conducted their own investigation and concluded that sanctions do not prevent some members of Yanukovych's "family" from continuing to conduct business.
For example, Yuriy Ivanyushchenko, better known as "Yura Yenakiyevsky," is a former member of parliament and a fellow countryman of Yanukovych. According to Focus magazine, a year ago, Ivanyushchenko's fortune reached $750 million. He controlled, and continues to control, such lucrative enterprises as Sedmoy Kilometer, Azovmash, and Antratsit.
Ivanyushchenko is on the EU sanctions list, but according to the Anti-Corruption Action Center, Ukrainian prosecutors showed no interest in him for almost all of 2014. Only recently did the Prosecutor General's Office charge the former MP, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs placed him on the wanted list. According to Prosecutor General Yarema, 11 plots of land, six houses, and 50 kilograms of gold belonging to Ivanyushchenko are currently under arrest, but that's far from all he owns.
Another bright representative of the "family" - Oleg Tsarev He owned bakeries, a paper mill, hectares of land, and much more. In the village of Ukrainka in the Dnipropetrovsk region, Tsarev is known less as a member of parliament and more as the "local king of pig farms." He is wanted by the Prosecutor General's Office (GPU) for calling for the violent overthrow of the government. However, according to journalists, he has established himself comfortably in Moscow; his office is located in a prestigious location, just a five-minute walk from the Kremlin. It was there that he arranged to meet the ICTV film crew. Currently, Tsarev is trying to save his unfinished mansion near Dnipropetrovsk from arrest. Families of displaced persons from Donetsk currently live there, and Tsarev plans to evict them through the courts.
