Yanukovych's people are trying to take control of Ukraine's transport sector.

An official with direct ties to the odious Viktor Medvedchuk and Viktor Yanukovych's team is vying to lead Ukraine's Ministry of Transport. This is Oleksiy Krivopishin, head of the Southwestern Railway. Despite numerous complaints against him from law enforcement agencies, this official has established himself well, and judging by his vigorous PR campaign in the media, he appears to be a serious contender for the post of head of the Ministry of Transport or at least Ukrzaliznytsia under the new government.

In particular, according to media reports, immediately after the Revolution of Dignity, Oleksiy Krivopishin was placed on the wanted list for embezzlement of state property amounting to 16 million hryvnias. This occurred in March of this year, and in February, railway workers appealed to the Right Sector demanding Krivopishin's lustration. According to prosecutors, a scheme was hatched to effectively alienate Ukrzaliznytsia property, specifically the Express hotel complex, in favor of private entities directly linked to Oleksiy Krivopishin. This scheme involved the well-known creator of "construction pyramids," Sunday Adelaja, a preacher from the Embassy of God, who is also currently facing legal investigations.
Journalists from the program "Nashi Groshi" claim that Oleksiy Krivopishin's family "earned" about 758 million hryvnias in government tenders.
At the same time, as reported by the publication "Ekonomicheskaya Pravda", it was precisely the desire to remove Krivopishin's "family business" from Ukrzaliznytsia's procurement that became the reason for the resistance to reforms by the head of the Southwestern Railway himself.
However, it's not just about money. Beyond financial machinations, the official is closely linked to clearly pro-Russian forces in Ukraine. Specifically, he is one of the main benefactors of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and has a long-standing friendship with the Lavra's abbot, Pavlo (Lebed), known for his special relationship with former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and his anti-Ukrainian statements. As a reminder, on January 22, 2014, Pavlo compared Viktor Yanukovych to Jesus Christ. According to sources within the Church who know Krivopishin well, the official has successfully used Pavlo to secure political support for his "economic activities" in the highest echelons of power for many years.
Oleksiy Krivopishin's ability to find common ground with various authorities has allowed him to maintain his position under any regime. For example, back in 2004, according to media reports, Krivopishin personally oversaw the formation of 20 trains of "titushki" (illegal proxies) sent from Donbas to Kyiv. However, this did not prevent him from being elected to the Kyiv City Council in 2006 on the BYuT list. In 2010, with the support of the Party of Regions, he was elected to the Vinnytsia Regional Council and served the Yanukovych regime faithfully until February 2014.
According to sources within his own department, it was Krivopishin who gave direct orders to stop trains from Western Ukraine carrying protesters during the hottest days of the clashes on February 18-20, 2014, when people were dying on the Maidan... This case remains uninvestigated.
Today, this official actively opposes reforms at Ukrzaliznytsia. Clearly, such reforms would also undermine the corruption schemes that the family of the odious director profits from. Furthermore, stalling reforms likely benefits Medvedchuk's former party comrade and friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin. After all, in a war, destabilizing logistics could cause the greatest damage to Ukraine's defense.
Despite a number of criminal cases, journalistic investigations, and high-profile political scandals, Alexey Krivopishin remains in office. And it appears he has good career prospects under the new government.
