Yuriy Sevruk, the newly appointed First Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine under Viktor Shokin, is confident that he is not subject to the lustration law.
"According to our law, district prosecutors in Kyiv who worked during the Revolution of Dignity (I wasn't working there at the time; I'd already been working in the Prosecutor General's Office for over a year) or heads of independent departments within the Prosecutor General's Office are subject to lustration," he said at a briefing today.
Sevruk explained that during the specified period of time he worked as deputy head of the department, which was part of the main department.”
"Therefore, I wasn't the head of an independent department and am not subject to lustration. I submitted all the documents for the lustration audit, which is reflected on the Prosecutor General's Office website," Sevruk said.
The First Deputy Prosecutor General also expects a conclusion from the Ministry of Internal Affairs on this matter in the near future.
Commenting on the news of his award from Viktor Yanukovych, Sevruk noted that he indeed received a medal for labor and valor from the former president. He is confident, however, that he received the award "for good work for the state, not for a specific individual."
It is also known that in June 2015, Petro Poroshenko awarded Sevruk the rank of State Justice Counselor of the 3rd class, which is equivalent to the rank of Major General.
As a reminder, Shokin's controversial deputy, Vladimir Guzyr, previously announced his resignation.
