Ukraine's imposition of sanctions against Russian businesses and individuals will deal another crushing blow to the Ukrainian economy, increase our country's dependence on its Western "masters," lead to the loss of thousands of jobs, and a decline in living standards. This statement was made by Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of the Ukrainian Choice public movement.
As is known, on September 16, the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of September 2, 2015, “On the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)” came into force.
"This arbitrary decision is aimed at severing economic ties with the Russian Federation's most high-tech enterprises. Such actions will deal another crushing blow to Ukraine's economy, increase our country's dependence on its Western 'masters,' lead to the loss of thousands of jobs, and a decline in living standards. The example of Europe, which is losing billions of euros from such sanctions, demonstrates the futility of such an approach," Medvedchuk asserts.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian government, “carrying out the will of overseas puppeteers,” is not acting on economic expediency, “it is driven by populism and the desire to achieve political revenge.”
"This is precisely why it became possible to adopt a document whose quality of preparation has already provoked Homeric laughter both in the country and abroad," Medvedchuk emphasized.
Medvedchuk called the fact that the sanctions list included not only politicians and officials, but also cultural figures, journalists, and bloggers from 16 countries, "a settling of scores for political reasons."
"This decision reveals the true nature of the European integrationist regime, which proclaims its commitment to democratic principles in words but, in practice, flagrantly and cynically violates them. This document does not protect the interests of the Ukrainian state. Moreover, it condemns our country's economy to further stagnation and exposes to the world the true face of today's government, which is confidently moving from xenophobia to dictatorship," concluded Viktor Medvedchuk.
