A protest in support of the Lermontovsky Clinical Sanatorium took place near the Odessa Regional State Administration building with slogans such as "Ministry of Justice, create, don't steal" and "Club, help!"
Last week, according to the sanatorium's director, Dmitry Antipov, an attempt was made to illegally seize the medical facility.
According to Dmitry Antipov, a group of inspectors from the Ministry of Justice visited the health complex. They threatened and demanded that the employees hand over valuables, documents, and keys to the building. The speaker noted that the delegation had registered a shell company the day before the meeting and intended to break the law by seizing the Lermontovsky.
"I'm shocked by the position of the Ministry of Justice, whose primary responsibility is to uphold the law in the country. But they're engaging in outright lawlessness! As of now, we haven't handed over a single sanatorium building to the Ministry. We encountered a similar corporate raid three years ago. Back then, they tried to create a shell company, Lermontovsky LLC, but our team stood their ground," he said.
Vyacheslav Buratynsky, Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Odessa Region, reported that in January of this year, the Cabinet of Ministers signed a decree according to which the property of the Lermontovsky Clinical Sanatorium will be transferred to the Ministry of Justice for the purpose of improving the health of government employees.
"Last year, we treated 50 people from the ATO zone. Now, as we understand, the sanatorium won't exist for much longer... We received 3 million hryvnias from local budgets—the Odesa Regional State Administration and the City Council—so the sanatorium remains open. But the state doesn't contribute a penny to its maintenance," responded a representative of the Federation of Trade Unions.
It's worth noting that medical professionals from the Gorky Sanatorium, which doctors say is also facing the threat of destruction, came to support their colleagues. Vasily, a massage therapist at the facility, believes the government wants to eliminate social insurance, supposedly to prevent corruption, but, he emphasized, "they haven't come up with an alternative for the people."
As a reminder, the Lermontovsky Clinical Sanatorium was founded by a group of renowned Odessa doctors in June 1914. It provides rehabilitation for patients with cardiovascular diseases from the Odessa region. Lermontovsky is located in a unique area – a 10-hectare park near the sea.
