A criminal case has been opened against Sakvarelidze, who detained two high-ranking officials who took bribes.

11217177_1021525577858771_4062218002894107321_nIn Kyiv, under the leadership of David Sakvarelidze, the following were detained: Vladimir Shapakin, First Deputy Head of the Prosecutor General's Office's Investigative Department, and Oleksandr Korniets, Deputy Prosecutor of the Kyiv Region. They are suspected of extorting especially large bribes. According to Mustafa Naem, more than $500 was found on the officials during their arrests. He wrote this on his Facebook page.

According to People's Deputy Naem, Vladimir Shapakin was found to have:

— $130 thousand in the office;

— $30 thousand and €22 thousand in the house;

— $170 thousand and 500 thousand UAH in the apartment;

— documents for deposits in the amount of 800 thousand UAH, as well as unregistered firearms and ammunition.

 

The operation was personally supervised by Deputy Prosecutor General David Sakvarelidze and SBU Director Vasily Gritsak. The most interesting aspect of this situation is that, as a result of this operation, a criminal case was opened against Sakvarelidze for "seizing a government agency." This case against the official was initiated by another Deputy Prosecutor General, Vladimir Guzyr.

 

"The information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations in connection with the searches conducted on July 5, 2015, at the direction of Sakvarelidze, in the office of Kyiv Oblast Deputy Prosecutor Oleksandr Korniets and Deputy Head of the Main Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine Volodymyr Shapakin. In fact, the pogrom Sakvarelidze staged at the GPU Investigative Department on Borisoglebskaya Street was classified by Guzyr as an illegal seizure of a government building," journalist Boyko wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the journalist: "Sakvarelidze approached SBU Chairman Vasyl Gritsak, who assigned him members of the Alpha special forces unit. However, a search of the offices revealed no bribes, and the only result of Sakvarelidze's madness was the smashed doors of the Main Investigative Department of the Prosecutor General's Office."
