The National Union of Journalists is compiling a list of enemies of the press.

CensorshipThe National Union of Journalists of Ukraine announces the launch of the "Enemies of the Press 2021" anti-rating. The results will be published on the eve of World Press Freedom Day on May 3. Facebook The head of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Sergei Tomilenko, reported.

"The NUJU is convinced that public condemnation of officials who attack the rights of journalists and infringe on freedom of speech is an effective tool for journalists' self-defense.

"Journalists are important! And 'Enemies of the Press' are those who seek to diminish the role and influence of individual journalists and the media as a whole on public affairs, using any means necessary: pressure, censorship, threats, intimidation, blocking," notes NUJU Chairman Serhiy Tomilenko. "Politicians or businessmen can boast of their power and income, yet go down in history as enemies of the press."

Journalists are encouraged to submit candidates for the "Enemies of the Press 2021" anti-rating using a special online form: https://cutt.ly/zcVlocu Only journalists (or editorial directors for media outlets) may nominate candidates for the anti-rating. Submissions must include a compelling justification for the specific activities for which the individual is being nominated for "Enemy of the Press." The NUJU notes that the anti-rating's title is a classic one, meaning "press" refers to all journalism, all forms of media, and freedom of speech in general.

Proposals will be accepted until April 27, and the anti-rating list will be approved by the Secretariat of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, which includes 18 authoritative representatives of national and regional media and leading media experts.

The National Union of Journalists of Ukraine is the country's largest journalistic organization, with nearly 19000 members. The NUJU is a member of the European and International Federations of Journalists," he wrote.
