Former head of the Kyiv City Council, Oleksandr Popov, intends to run for mayor of Komsomolsk in the Poltava region.

It is noted that the Opposition Bloc initially tried to persuade him to run for mayor of Kyiv, but Komsomolsk was then chosen due to Popov's high ratings in the city.

According to other reports, Sergei Levochkin dissuaded Popov from running for the mayor's seat. Popov himself has neither confirmed nor denied any election preparations, stating that he has not yet made a final decision.

It should be recalled that from 1994 to 2006 Popov headed Komsomolsk.

He also currently faces two criminal charges related to the dispersal of students on the Maidan. It's worth noting that Popov isn't the only potential mayoral candidate with open criminal cases.
