On May 27, Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin signed an order appointing Oleksiy Kalina as Prosecutor of Kyiv's Dniprovsky District. This was reported on the Prosecutor General's Office's official website.

Kalina was transferred to the position of head of the district prosecutor's office from his position as deputy prosecutor of Kyiv, where he had been appointed on November 6, 2014. In this position, Kalina was remembered for his zealous defense of Oleksandr Lutsenko, the eldest son of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc faction leader Yuriy Lutsenko, who was involved in a car accident in Nyvky on the night of February 9, 2015. At the time, Kalina confirmed the Lutsenko family's account that the VIP son was not at fault in the accident involving the Daewoo Lanos (driven by police officer Petro Levchuk, who died) and the Volkswagen Touareg driven by the MP's son. "A medical examination of Oleksandr Lutsenko was conducted, and no traces of drug, alcohol, or other intoxication were found," he said at the time.
As previously reported by Prosecutor's Truth, before moving to the capital, Kalina's entire career had been spent in Kharkiv (senior assistant to the Kharkiv prosecutor, deputy prosecutor of the city's Oktyabrsky district, etc.) and only with the appointment of Vitaliy Yarema as Prosecutor General in July 2014 did he move to Kyiv, where he received a "cushy" position as senior assistant to the Prosecutor General of Ukraine in the Prosecutor General's Office.
It's worth noting that the young lawman's rapid rise in Kharkiv was fueled by Kalina's previous association with former Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor General Gennady Tyurin. Sources also claim that Kalina worked closely with Artem, the son of former Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka, and was noted in the department for his love of luxury cars (an Audi Allroad with license plate AX9797KA, valued at over €100). After the change of power and the departure of Tyurin and Pshonka, Kalina allegedly negotiated a deal with Viktor Sinchuk (until his transfer to Poltava and subsequent "secondment" to the Crimean Prosecutor General's Office from the Ukrainian side) for $75 to remain in the fold. However, he then abruptly changed patrons.
Prosecutor Kalina's official income declaration is rather meager: in 2013, his income was just over 111 hryvnias (including 7 hryvnias in financial aid!), while last year, the prosecutor earned just over 181 hryvnias. Kalina also owns a small apartment measuring 38 square meters, and his luxury Audi A6 Allroad is modestly listed in his declaration as a car he has a driving license for.
