Norway's Telenor will sell its stake in Kyivstar.

KyivstarOn October 5, 2015, the Norwegian company Telenor plans to sell a 33% stake in the holding company VimpelCom. The latter, as is known, owns the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar.

 

As Telenor Group noted, this decision was made at a shareholders' meeting and is a strategic goal of the Norwegian holding company. The value of Telenor's shares is estimated at 20 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately $2,4 billion at the current exchange rate). The Norwegian holding company's management is considering all possible options for selling VimpelCom shares to protect the interests of its shareholders.

 

Telenor has reportedly invested approximately NOK 15 billion in VimpelCom Holdings over its entire lifespan. The company has received NOK 20 billion in dividends.

 

The majority shareholder of VimpelCom, which owns the Ukrainian mobile operator Kyivstar, is LetterOne, a company owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman.
