Edition OBOZREVATEL announced that Russian-Ukrainian businessman Pavel Fuks is trying to take over the publication.
In this regard, they published an open statement. We present the text below:
"The editorial board of OBOZREVATEL publicly addresses President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the guarantor of the Constitution, the National Security and Defense Council, fellow journalists, diplomatic missions of democratic countries in Ukraine, as well as the High Council of Justice, human rights defenders, and members of parliament.
Businessman Pavel Fuks, who fled Russia for Ukraine several years ago and became the subject of a number of anti-corruption investigations in Ukrainian and international media, is attempting to seize control of the OBOZREVATEL publication through a corporate raid.
We have been writing about Fuchs's schemes for several years:
about how the company, connected to him, retroactively demanded a fine, a penalty, and an “adjustment coefficient” from the Kyiv Metro for a total of almost 2 billion UAH;
about how the oil and gas business of the entourage of fugitive ex-president Viktor Yanukovych ended up in the hands of Pavel Fuks and the state-owned company Nadra Ukrainy effectively "gifted" the oligarch the fields and how he began to seize the region;
and also about the special investigation by FBI adviser Robert Mueller into Fuchs, who allegedly tried to propose “peace” plans and other agreements that coincided with Russia’s interests.
These are just a few examples from a series of OBOZREVATEL investigations into the businessman’s activities.
In response, Fuchs filed a lawsuit against the publication, which we ultimately "lost." We disagree with the court's decision, but we are willing to "pay" for the opportunity to write the truth. We are willing, but we cannot. Neither he nor his lawyers provided the necessary details to enforce the court's decision or contact the enforcement service, as is customary in such situations.
An oligarch who fled Russia is attempting to bankrupt OBOZREVATEL's publisher, Zolotaya Seredina LLC, through the Kyiv Regional Commercial Court. Fuks's lawyers are attempting to prove that the company is allegedly unable to pay the "debt" (though in reality, compensation), while simultaneously blocking any possibility of enforcing the court's decision. As evidence, we can cite Fuks's lawyers, who, on behalf of their client, have promised to "take everything." Some associates of this so-called entrepreneur have even revealed the bill: Fuks allegedly spent $2 million on the war with OBOZREVATEL and is demanding compensation.
We understand why the oligarch who fled Russia targeted one of the digital market leaders. Fuks is known for his close ties to the Opposition Platform – For Life party; many sources even list him as one of the Opposition Bloc's investors. Following the National Security and Defense Council's (NSDC) decision to impose sanctions on three of Medvedchuk's channels, the pro-Russian lobby, given all these factors, needed to update its media portfolio.
Therefore, we specifically appeal to the National Security and Defense Council to address another threat to the information market stemming from the fifth column and the country's under-reformed judicial system. Half measures are useless; we must act decisively.
For 20 years, OBOZREVATEL has operated in accordance with Ukrainian law, guided by the principles of fair journalism and objective reporting for our readers. We have endured various trials, pressure, threats, and attempts to shut down or "squeeze" Kommersant, and therefore are always ready for the next battle with the next defendant.
The attempt by a notorious oligarch to take over Ukraine's largest publication through corporate raiding cannot go unnoticed by the Ukrainian government, the media sphere, and the international community."
