corruptionAccording to the Special Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernivtsi Oblast, police officers detained a teacher who demanded 12 hryvnias from an applicant for admission, reports ORD.

Employees of the State Service for Combating Economic Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Chernivtsi Oblast, together with the regional prosecutor's office, documented the criminal activity of the dean of a faculty at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University.

The teacher planned to profit from applicants. He wasn't interested in the knowledge, skills, or scores of those applying for admission. The main thing was to put a few bucks in their pockets. The man demanded and received 12 hryvnias for admission to the department's correspondence program. It was while handing over the money that law enforcement officers detained him. The evidence was seized and added to the criminal case file.

The Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor's Office has charged the man with a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise, or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official). A preventive measure will be determined in the near future.

The perpetrator has now been detained and placed in a temporary detention facility at the Chernivtsi Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. The Directorate's Department for State Security and Combating Economic Crimes (USSBEP) is also investigating additional cases of extortion and the receipt of improper benefits by the detainee.
