Ruslan Oleynik, the son of a former Party of Regions MP, is demanding his reinstatement as prosecutor of the Cherkasy district of the Cherkasy region. He filed the lawsuit with the Cherkasy District Administrative Court. On November 10, the hearing was adjourned to November 28. However, Prosecutor Mykolenko, who filed the motion for Oleynik's dismissal, has now been dismissed under the "Law on the Purification of Government."
According to the Unified Register of Court Cases, in addition to his reinstatement, Oleynik is seeking compensation from the court for his salary for the period of forced absence, as well as 10 hryvnias in compensation for moral damages.
As previously reported by Prokurorskaya Pravda, local activists demanded Prosecutor Oleynik's resignation on July 5, 2014. A meeting with them ended in a scuffle, during which Prosecutor Oleynik was slightly roughed up by Euromaidan activists. Oleynik then went on sick leave—first to intensive care, and then to the urology department. In early September 2014, Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema, acting on a recommendation from Cherkasy Oblast Prosecutor Viktor Mykolenko, dismissed Oleynik.
As is known, the dismissed prosecutors who advocated for the dismissal of Oleynik, Veger, and Mykolenko in court also filed lawsuits demanding that the Prosecutor General's Office's actions be declared unlawful, that the dismissal order be overturned, and that compensation equal to a month's salary be collected for the period of forced absence.
