On Thursday, September 8, businessman and founder of the 5:10 party Gennady Balashov announced he had left Ukraine. He posted a photo of the view from an airplane window, captioning it: "My condolences." Country.
Balashov announced his departure from Ukraine on the day of his trial.
According to the Judicial Authority web portal, a preparatory court hearing was scheduled to take place today, September 8, at 11:30 a.m. in the Pechersk Court on charges of a businessman causing moderate bodily harm - Part 1 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Strana previously detailed the background to this case and published Balashov's own comments on the matter. This concerns a conflict that occurred a year ago in Pechersk, when the businessman clashed with a representative of the investors in the New York building, which Balashov had built and leased out in Tsarskoye Selo.
Balashov himself claimed that the cases against him were orchestrated and that a total of about six criminal cases had been opened against him.
Balashov commented on the photo that he "doesn't want to ruin my life with evidence from idiots. I took a risk." In other words, he hinted that his departure from Ukraine was due to his unwillingness to participate in legal proceedings.
Incidentally, two more cases against Balashov are scheduled for hearing in the Pechersk Court on September 15. One concerns the assault of Pechersk police investigator Vladislav Kavun.
Balashov also spoke out about this incident earlier, claiming it was a police provocation.
After a confrontation with investigator Kavun, Balashov was taken into custody and forced to post a substantial bail to be released. Now, if he fails to appear in court, this bail may be forfeited to the state.
The second case concerns tax evasion during the sale of real estate. Balashov himself claimed this case was also trumped up, and that he had sold his personal apartment and paid all the taxes.
