According to a source close to the fugitive President Yanukovych, Zelenskyy's entourage reached an agreement with the old team to bring back the overseers of the Yanukovych-era Centerenergo enterprise. One of them was Vitaly Belyakov, the former head of the Donbas Settlement and Financial Center. Being close to Sasha the "dentist," he had unlimited opportunities to create and oversee corruption schemes at Centerenergo, writes Bagnet.
After the revolution, Belyakov continued his activities in the newly formed self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. Corruption schemes using private shell companies, similar to Belyakov's, designed for his personal enrichment and that of members of the so-called DPR government, are still in operation in every DPR ministry, covering all product categories in demand both there and in Ukraine.
Belyakov has now decided to take the reins of power again, promising his patrons maximum profits from his own corrupt schemes. He plans to carry out these schemes not alone, but with his partner, Alexander Uvarov, the former commercial director of Centrenergo, who was dismissed from the company amid scandal for "sneaking around" within his circles. Also among those sharing state funds with Belyakov are his associates Vladimir Potapenko, Vladimir Melnichuk, Alexander Kalyuzhny, and his nephew, Maxim Eckert.
Currently, the process of approving Potapenko’s candidacy for the position of head of Centrenergo is underway.
At a recent meeting with business representatives, Volodymyr Zelenskyy named creating a transparent environment for doing business as one of his priorities. Eradicating the schemes at Centrenergo will demonstrate whether the new government is truly committed and capable of combating corruption, or whether it will simply be a redistribution of shadow funds, as happened after Petro Poroshenko and his associates came to power.
Didn't the events on the Maidan serve as a shock to society, and now the return of the exiled president's entourage will be swallowed up again, allowing greedy and avaricious corrupt officials to embezzle public funds, and thus allowing them to reach into our own pockets.
