Three non-governmental organizations have issued a demand to Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin. They are demanding that his first deputy, Yuriy Sevruk, be removed from the selection committee for the head of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

The reason cited is that Sevruk's departure will make the selection process for the head of the Prosecutor's Office truly independent. Giovanni Kessler, Director of the European Anti-Fraud Office, is being proposed for the position of Deputy Prosecutor General.

It's important to note that it was Sevruk who initiated the internal investigation against his colleague, David Sakvarelidze, for his attempts to reform the prosecutor's office. It's also worth noting that Kessler had already been proposed as a replacement for U.S. Attorney Mary Butler. A draft resolution on this was submitted to parliament last week.

Currently, Transparency International Ukraine, the Anti-Corruption Action Center, and the Reanimation Package of Reforms are speaking out against Sevruk; the initiative was published on the latter's website.
