Sergey Taruta
The plot of the former Party of Regions member was foiled Geller and Yatsenyuk's ally Dzenzersky, who wanted to take control of the Interparliamentary Cooperation Group between the Verkhovna Rada and the German Bundestag. MP Serhiy Leshchenko announced this on his Facebook page. The group was headed by MP Serhiy Taruta.
Specifically, Leshchenko clarified the details. Last week, Geller and Dzenzersky attempted to become co-chairs of the group, securing the support of 15 of the more than 90 deputies who comprise the group. To stop a decision they believed had already been made, Leshchenko, together with Serhiy Taruta, began collecting signatures to elect their candidate to the leadership. The election of the chairman of the cooperation group with the Bundestag was brought before the Verkhovna Rada Committee on International Affairs. During the discussion, Leshchenko withdrew his candidacy in favor of Taruta, who became the head of the cooperation group with the Bundestag.
As Serhiy Leshchenko noted, the most important thing isn't the fact that Taruta has the support of the German ambassadors to Ukraine, the Ukrainian ambassadors to Germany, or Minister Klimkin. The key point is preventing former Party of Regions members Geller and Dzenzersky from having any dealings with the German Bundestag.
Denys Dzenzerskyi has been a People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 7th convocation since December 12, 2012, representing the All-Ukrainian Union "Batkivshchyna" party, No. 34 on the electoral list. In October 2014, Denys Dzenzerskyi was elected as a People's Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation representing the People's Front political party, No. 24 on the electoral list. In parliament, he serves as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Financial Policy and Banking. In December, he chaired the working group on resolving the issue of restructuring foreign currency loans. According to media reports, he is friends with Mykola Azarov's son, Oleksiy Azarov.
Yevhen Geller has been a member of the Party of Regions since 2001. He headed the party's control department. According to the Ukrainian newspaper Ekonomichna Pravda, he was considered the "controller of the party's treasury." On June 5, 2012, he voted for the Law of Ukraine "On the Fundamentals of State Language Policy," which guaranteed the use of "regional languages" in Ukraine and allowed several regions to grant official status to the Russian language. On January 16, 2014, he voted for the so-called "Laws of January 16," or "Dictatorship Laws"—a package of laws that significantly restricted citizens' rights, including freedom of speech.
