Yesterday's statement by Odessa Oblast Governor Mikheil Saakashvili regarding corruption in the highest echelons of power could be interpreted as grounds for initiating criminal proceedings. This statement was made today by Artem Sytnyk, head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
According to him, such public statements to the media could be considered grounds for initiating a pre-trial investigation. Moreover, according to Sytnyk, the security services "have some leads" on these facts. He also announced that a meeting would be held today to follow up on the Odesa governor's speech.
As a reminder, Saakashvili openly accused businessmen Dmytro Firtash, Ihor Kolomoisky, Rinat Akhmetov, and Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk of corruption. Other names were also mentioned. According to the governor, the actions of these officials resulted in a loss of approximately 5 billion hryvnias to the country's budget.
Saakashvili promised to speak about this in more detail at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada.
