Former Energy and Coal Minister Eduard Stavitsky and his wife received Israeli passports. They are now the Rosenbergs.
Serhiy Leshchenko reported on his blog on Ukrayinska Pravda that the fugitive former Minister of Energy and Coal Industry, Eduard Stavytsky, and his wife, have received Israeli passports. According to his passport, he is now Eduard Rosenberg.
As a journalist and now newly elected deputy writes: "According to my sources, Stavitsky is no longer Stavitsky. His new name is Eduard Rosenberg. Stavitsky's wife has also received a new surname—she is now Helena Rosenberg."
According to reports, the Stavitsky-Rosenberg family lives in a luxury seaside villa in a Tel Aviv suburb. Therefore, the former minister is now unlikely to fall into the hands of the Ukrainian justice system. Firstly, Israel does not extradite its citizens, and secondly, Interpol is searching for a man named Stavitsky, while a man named Rosenberg is not on the wanted list.
As a reminder, Eduard Stavytsky was placed on the SBU's wanted list on April 23, and by Interpol in early August. The former minister is charged with appropriation and embezzlement of state property on an especially large scale, as well as abuse of office and criminal proceeds.
After the former minister fled in an unknown direction, his home was searched. Diamonds, a collection of wristwatches worth approximately $600, gold bars, and approximately $5 million in cash were found.
According to some media reports, Stavitsky left Ukraine for Italy.
Advisor to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anton Gerashchenko reported that the fugitive minister received an Israeli passport and citizenship.
