As it became known, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, in accordance with the Law "On the Cleansing of Power," dismissed about a hundred high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, including eight generals.
He announced this on his Facebook page: "In total, as part of the first stage, yesterday, by my order, 91 employees were dismissed from the force, including those who held leadership positions both in the ministry's office and in regional agencies. Among them, eight were generals. Work to implement the law continues. The development of a new police personnel philosophy continues, step by step."
Among those dismissed was Major General Konstantin Pozhidaev, the chief police officer of the Donetsk region, who headed the Kirovohrad regional police department during Viktor Yanukovych's presidency.
The head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kyiv region is Major General Yaroslav Golomsha, who has held this position since April 2014.
The head of the Poltava region police department, Colonel Ivan Korsun, has been repeatedly opposed by the Poltava region public.
Serhiy Kovalev has been dismissed from his post as First Deputy Chief – Chief of the Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Khmelnytskyi region.
Major General Sergei Komissarov is the Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Luhansk region.

The leadership of some departments of the State Traffic Inspectorate and the Department of Security Services have also been removed from their positions.
According to this law, senior former police officers are prohibited from working in the internal affairs agencies for 10 years.
