Police have uncovered a scheme to illegally import railway cars from Russia into Ukraine.

Investigators from the Department for the Investigation of Corruption Crimes of the Main Investigative Department of the National Police of Ukraine have uncovered a scheme for importing railway cars into the customs territory of Ukraine under the import regime, reports press office National police.

More than 600 railcars were imported into Ukraine and registered using forged documents. These illegal transactions were carried out in violation of Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 1147 of December 30, 2015.

"Law enforcement officers established that a Russian business entity imported over 600 railway cars into Ukrainian customs territory, which were subsequently registered using forged documents regarding their origin. Furthermore, some of the cars' service life expired in 2020," the statement reads.

Such actions contravene the requirements of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Resolution No. 1147 of December 30, 2015, "On the Prohibition of the Import of Goods Originating in the Russian Federation into the Customs Territory of Ukraine." Specifically, the resolution explicitly prohibits the import of railway cars from the Russian Federation into the customs territory of Ukraine.

On April 8, 2021, a series of searches were conducted in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, during which documentation regarding the purchase of railway cars from Russian legal entities and individuals and their import into Ukrainian customs territory was seized.
