On Radio Liberty's "Schemes" program, journalists reported that in 2013, the Pechersk District Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal investigation into the destruction of part of the Kyiv Fortress. However, the pre-trial investigation was suspended on November 6, 2014, and the case was closed.
As it turns out, this 0,6-hectare plot at 5 Radialnaya Street was purchased by Petro Poroshenko in 2009. In the fall of 2012, construction work began there, leading to the partial destruction of the historical monument.
Furthermore, this plot of land is located within the buffer zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Kyiv: Saint Sophia Cathedral and Adjacent Monastic Buildings, and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra." Permission from the Ministry of Culture is required to begin construction in this zone, but Poroshenko has not received it.
Previously, the State Architectural and Construction Inspectorate registered a declaration on the commencement of construction work and the installation of a retaining wall on this site.
