Kharkiv Mayor Gennady Kernes's businesses laundered 86 million hryvnias through garbage: The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal investigation into the misappropriation of state funds.
The prosecutor's office has opened a criminal case on the fact of misappropriation of state funds (Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) by officials of the Kharkiv municipal enterprise "Complex for the removal of household waste".
According to Kharkiv Oblast Deputy Prosecutor Oleksandr Stratyuk, between 2012 and 2014, the utility company entered into and paid for a number of contracts for the supply of goods, works, and services with companies that appeared to be fictitious. These contractors were not registered at their registered address and had no personnel or facilities, the prosecutor's office press service told Glavny.
Specifically, during the specified period, utility companies entered into fuel supply contracts with an 80-year-old female entrepreneur. However, she has been living abroad since 2013 and is not registered with the state migration service.
As it turned out, money for the supposedly delivered products was transferred through transit companies to other fictitious business entities.
Thus, the KP employees transferred approximately 86 million UAH to fictitious counterparties for subsequent cashing.
The pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing. Its progress is being monitored by the regional prosecutor's office.
