The prosecutor's office will look into the misuse of budget funds to purchase an apartment for Mazan.

The Kyiv Oblast Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case into the misuse of budget funds during the purchase of an apartment for Valeriy Mazan, former head of the Kyiv Oblast Department of Internal Affairs.

According to the prosecutor's office press service, the case was opened for embezzlement of budget funds totaling over 3 million hryvnias. These funds were used to purchase housing for former Kyiv Oblast police chief Valeriy Mazan.
Currently, a pre-trial investigation is ongoing under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (embezzlement of budgetary funds on an especially large scale through abuse of office), and measures are being taken to bring those involved to criminal responsibility.
The press service also reported: "The investigation established that at the end of 2012, in the center of the capital, the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kyiv region purchased an apartment at a price almost four times higher than the market price, in gross violation of the procedure for the use of budget funds."
Valeriy Mazan was appointed head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Kyiv region in 2012.
Since the end of 2013, he has been acting head of the Kyiv Main Police Department.
