The Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office has identified violations of fire and industrial safety regulations at the BRSM-Nafta gas station chain, posing a real threat to human life. This was reported in a press release from the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.
The large-scale inspection of the BRSM-Nafta gas station chain was prompted by an explosion in April of this year at a BRSM-Nafta gas station in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi. As is known, the accident killed six people, and another seven suffered injuries of varying severity.
"To prevent similar tragedies, the regional prosecutor's office, with the assistance of specialists from regulatory agencies, conducted an inspection of the BRSM-Nafta gas station network operating in the region. During the inspection, gross violations of fire and industrial safety regulations were identified, posing a real threat of emergency situations, loss of life, or other serious consequences," the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
Based on these facts, prosecutors have initiated 10 criminal proceedings under Part 1 of Article 273 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of safety regulations at explosive enterprises).
During the pre-trial investigation in these cases, at the request of investigators, the courts seized the property of 7 gas stations.
Furthermore, an examination revealed that the gasoline seized from the gas station destroyed by the explosion did not meet state standards and specifications. The Kyiv Regional Police Investigative Department is investigating this incident under Part 1 of Article 204 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal acquisition for the purpose of sale of petroleum products).
As a reminder, in September, the prosecutor's office completed its investigation into the criminal case regarding the explosion of the BRSM-Nafta gas station complex, which occurred on April 22, 2014, in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv Oblast, and referred the case to court.
