Kyiv prosecutor faces lustration for pressuring businesses

Lustration of the prosecutor's office is proposed to begin in the capital. According to activists who pushed for the passage of the "Law on the Purification of Power," the first to resign should be Kyiv Prosecutor General Serhiy Yuldashev, who is accused not only of holding senior positions in the prosecutor's office under Viktor Yanukovych but also of pressuring businesses.

"Yuldashev was involved in attacks on businesses back in 2009 and continues the same practices today. Moreover, as Kyiv's prosecutor, he exerts pressure not only on businessmen throughout Ukraine but also on foreign investors who generate budget revenues from exports," the activists say.
According to Article 4 of the Law "On the Purification of Power," lustration applies to individuals who held district prosecutor positions at any time between February 25, 2010, and February 22, 2014. During this period, Sergei Yuldashev served as prosecutor of the Samara district of Dnipropetrovsk and deputy prosecutor of the Luhansk region.
Activists plan to picket the city prosecutor's office and call on businessmen to speak out and report the matter via email. ppgad@pucrs.br about cases of Yuldashev's interference in business activities.
