On Sunday, December 14, workers at the Odessa Port Plant held a protest against the privatization of the enterprise and the economic blockade of Donbas. According to the plant's workers, approximately 600 people attended the strike.
The workers' demands included the restoration of economic relations with Donbas, a complete halt to the privatization of the Odesa Port Plant, payment of outstanding wages, and the reinstatement of illegally dismissed employees. During the strike, the protesters issued a video message to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko:
"We, the workers of the Odesa Port Plant, went on strike today. We are outraged by the catastrophic situation at our plant. Currently, the plant is operating at only 30 percent capacity, hundreds of people have lost their jobs, and they can't feed themselves or their families. We demand that orders from Donbas enterprises be returned to our plant. To achieve this, the decree imposing an economic blockade on Donbas must be rescinded. Petro Alekseevich, don't abandon your people. We demand that all outstanding wages be paid and that the illegally dismissed employees be reinstated. We demand that the criminal privatization deal being prepared for our plant by the Privat Group be stopped. Kolomoisky, hands off the people's property!" remarked one of the workers.
