Reforming the Ukrainian economy should begin with Naftogaz of Ukraine, according to Valeria Gontareva, head of the National Bank of Ukraine.
"This problem didn't arise at Naftogaz Ukrainy today – it's the accumulated imbalances of 23 years of our existence... I fully support the idea that we should begin our reform with Naftogaz," she told reporters in Kyiv on Monday.
V. Gontareva noted that Naftogaz is the largest importer in the country and the NBU is forced to sell it foreign currency to settle foreign contracts.
As reported, according to Naftogaz of Ukraine's report for last year, the company will have to repay loans to commercial banks in the amount of UAH 38,706 billion by the end of 2014.
