On March 21, Ivan Balaban, a raider of the Klyuev brothers, using the Aidar Battalion as cover, seized the Obolon children's yacht club in Kyiv. Activists reported this on social media.
Igor Akimenko wrote on Facebook that on March 21, unknown individuals prevented school students and yacht club management from entering the grounds. The next day, a lawyer arrived, introducing himself as Ivan Balaban, and stated that he represented the interests of the Ukrainian Trade Unions, which pay 57 hryvnias a month for the land on which the Obolon Yacht Club is located.
On March 29, 2016, another activist, Anastasia Kolesnichenko, wrote on her Facebook page that Ivan Balaban had falsified documents and was planning to take ownership of the Obolon children's yacht club, believing he had every right to do so.
The activist wrote that on March 29 at 18:00 PM, members of the Aidar Battalion arrived at the yacht club and threw the security guards over the fence. They then entered the office of the yacht club director and accountant and changed the locks everywhere. On March 30, the sailing club employees were unable to get to work.
In connection with these events, the Ukrainian Sailing Federation addressed the public with an open letter expressing concern about the ongoing events.
Media reports indicate that so-called "lawyer" Ivan Konstantinovich Balaban is the leader of a Kyiv organized crime group that relocated to the capital from Donetsk in 2007. The Klyuev brothers are said to be the direct patrons of Balaban's organized crime group.
It was Andriy Klyuyev, as head of Yanukovych's Administration, who promoted Ivan Balaban to the position of head of the Kyiv Greco-Roman Wrestling Federation. According to witnesses, during police interrogations and during "crisis" meetings with opponents, Mr. Balaban repeatedly used the Klyuyev brothers' surname as cover.
