The State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported on its website that the pollution of the Stugna River is caused by unauthorized emissions from the Acelot plant, which leases space at the former Kholodilnik plant in the city of Vasylkiv in the Kyiv region.
The working group investigating the causes of water poisoning in the Stugna River reportedly found elevated levels of ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, pesticides, and extremely high overall water toxicity. Water and fish samples were found to contain hazardous chemicals such as metalaxyl M, prothioconazole, fludioxonil, ester phosphate, and imidacloprid.
The National Police is currently investigating the unauthorized discharge of chemicals into the Stugna River. According to preliminary estimates by environmentalists, the damage to the state amounted to 3-5 million hryvnias.
The Ecology-Law-Human International Charitable Organization (IBO) has appealed to the Prosecutor General's Office (GPU) to initiate criminal proceedings against the company Acelot, which is responsible for polluting the river. Acelot specializes in the production of paint for painting the bottoms of ships.
