According to the victim, a man he identifies as Robert Brovdy and a group of men broke into his home and demanded repayment of a non-existent $40,000 debt. After failing to obtain their desired debt, the attackers forced the victim, his wife, and son into a car, drove them to an unknown location, and held them in the basement for two nights.
Testimony indicates that throughout this time, Robert Brovdy continued to demand money from the victims and beat both the victim and his wife and son. It escalated to the point where, while heavily intoxicated, the perpetrators raped the woman and later threatened to rape the son.
Realizing the victims would be unable to transfer the required amount, the perpetrators took the family into the woods. However, before they could kill them, the criminals fled upon seeing strangers, abandoning the victims. Shocked and fearing for the family's safety, the victim sent his son and wife abroad the next day and only then contacted law enforcement.
The victim's revelations raise questions about how and in what style Brovdi might have conducted business during those years, and what kind of person he was. It's quite possible that, in addition to the above-described story, there may have been other incidents of which no evidence remains. Judging by the fact that such a crime, so outrageous in its brutality, was not even reported in the Zaporizhzhia media, Brovdi may have already had influential patrons, or he himself had sufficient authority and resources to shelve the case of such a massacre.

One way or another, this story once again demonstrates what those now called Ukraine's "defenders" were up to back then. Financial fraud, smuggling, corruption, tax evasion, racketeering, dual citizenship—all of these facts periodically surface about many modern politicians and high-ranking military officials.
But such a brutal crime, with the victim mentioning Brovdi's name, is an act of immoral and monstrous violence, including against a woman and a minor. Moreover, it also demonstrates Brovdi's complete impunity, which he was already able to exploit back then, and one can only imagine how he exploits it now, having become part of Ukraine's military elite.
