The Ukrainian government has decided to reinstate the special technical inspection for passenger cars, which was abolished by the Azarov Cabinet in 2011.
The Ministry of Infrastructure announced that technical inspections will be introduced for trucks starting in 2015, buses starting in 2017, all passenger cars starting in 2019, and all motorcycles will be required to undergo technical inspections by 2022.
These innovations to the legislation of Ukraine were presented on December 9, 2015, as part of the presentation of the new draft law "On bringing Ukrainian legislation in the field of motor transport in line with European Union standards."
The bill proposes to introduce and require the installation of speed limiting devices on all motor vehicles: school buses up to 70 km/h, trucks up to 90 km/h, and all buses up to 100 km/h.
A mandatory system for verifying drivers' work and rest hours using tachographs is also planned for implementation in 2019. Additionally, special licensing for carriers transporting cargo weighing over 3,5 tons is proposed for implementation in 2021.
