The SBU has dismantled a scheme for illegal timber exports through companies controlled by Firtash.
Participants in the criminal scheme illegally shipped wholesale quantities of state-owned valuable timber abroad. It has been established that the management of a state-owned forestry enterprise in the Kirovohrad region was involved in organizing illegal activities. Officials established a criminal scheme to obtain funds for the sale of high-grade oak lumber abroad.
To implement the deal, officials entered into agreements with an affiliated commercial entity registered in a European country and falling under the jurisdiction of sanctioned companies.
According to the signed documents, representatives of the state-owned enterprise supplied industrial-scale quantities of forest products to foreign parties at artificially low prices. To achieve this, they provided false information about the quantity and quality of raw materials exported from the forestry enterprise.
According to preliminary data, the participants in the scheme transferred the resulting difference into the shadow economy through controlled companies.
During the investigative and operational activities, SBU officers documented the illegal sale of forest resources and identified the organizers of the transaction.
The head of the state-owned enterprise has been notified of suspicion of committing a crime. A decision is being made regarding the imposition of a preventive measure.
