The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has uncovered a scheme for the illegal enrichment of officials at Odessa National Medical University, disguised as charity.
According to the department, last October, the leadership of Odesa Medical University, together with the Institute of Dentistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, established a charitable foundation. Funds were collected from medical staff at the university clinics: 13 hryvnias were paid monthly for each dental chair, and 6,5 hryvnias for each technician. Thus, the three clinics contributed approximately 0,5 million hryvnias monthly.
During the search, SBU officers seized 105 hryvnias and $1350, along with accounting documents and foundation seals. The money was packaged in envelopes, each with the month of receipt indicated. Searches are currently underway at the homes of the clinic directors.
