Security Service of Ukraine officers have blocked the activities of a group in the Kirovohrad region that organized the illegal production and sale of petroleum products, reports press servicesand the security agency.
"To produce counterfeit diesel fuel and gasoline on an industrial scale, the group members set up an underground mini-factory on the premises of a private oil depot. They sold the finished products to agricultural enterprises in the Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Vinnytsia regions.
During searches of the illegal production site and the perpetrators' residences, law enforcement officers discovered more than 200 tons of counterfeit fuel worth over UAH 5 million.
The seized products and equipment used to manufacture them have been sent for examination,” the statement said.
Every month, the dealers sold wholesale quantities of fuel of dubious quality worth almost 30 million hryvnias.
According to preliminary investigation data, the illegal business was organized by three local businessmen.
