Security Service of Ukraine officers blocked counterfeit alcohol distribution channels in Kyiv, Odesa, and Vinnytsia regions, and also exposed a smuggling operation involving foreign tobacco. "In the capital region and the Odesa region, SBU cyber specialists uncovered a smuggling channel for wholesale cigarettes into Ukraine. The smugglers sold the illegally obtained products through an extensive network of anonymous online resources. According to intelligence, they sold over $50 worth of tobacco products monthly."
According to preliminary investigation data, the illegal activity was organized by two residents of the Ovidiopol district of the Odessa region. The dealers offered goods obtained outside customs control to customers on specially created online platforms. They used postal services to ship the products to customers," the statement reads.
Furthermore, in the Odesa region, based on SBU data, a notice of suspicion was issued to the organizer of a large-scale scheme for the illegal production and distribution of alcoholic beverages of dubious quality. The monthly turnover of counterfeit products amounted to 3 million hryvnias.
Law enforcement officials discovered that the illegal business was organized by a resident of the Razdelnyansky District. To produce the counterfeit drugs, the participants set up underground workshops on their own property. They sold the finished "products" under the guise of well-known brands through affiliated retail outlets and food service establishments throughout the region.
In the Vinnytsia region, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented nearly 5 tons of counterfeit alcohol from entering retail chains.
