The Security Service of Ukraine has documented an illegal scheme to embezzle funds from JSC Ukrzaliznytsia through fictitious repair work on diesel generators, reports press office power department.
"Security service operatives established that the perpetrators acted with the support of certain department heads at Ukrzaliznytsia JSC. It was documented that, contrary to the terms of the contract, instead of carrying out major repairs on existing diesel generators, the swindlers purchased cheap equipment of unknown origin.
To conceal the illegal transaction, railway workers falsified technical, accounting and other documentation.
Expert examinations initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine as part of the pre-trial investigation confirmed that the deal with JSC Ukrzaliznytsia caused damages of almost UAH 2 million," the statement reads.
The condition of such equipment is important to ensure traffic safety at critical infrastructure facilities.
