How Deputy Sergei Karabuta Became the Owner of Luxury Real Estate and Expensive Cars
Sergey Karabuta
A new face in parliament is Serhiy Karabuta. He entered the Rada in place of "Joker" Oleksandr Kabanov. But behind his parliamentary mandate are not only political ambitions but also dozens of apartments in Kyiv's elite residential complexes, expensive cars, and millions in cash.
Is the tourism business really that profitable?
Karabuta Sergey Alexandrovich Born on January 3, 1983 in Kyiv.
He graduated from the Faculty of Organization Management at the Institute of Tourism of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine and the Faculty of Law at the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management.
Lawyer. Director of Tropicana Travel LLC. Held senior positions in travel companies and agencies.
In the 2019 parliamentary elections, he was a candidate for people's deputy from the Servant of the People party, No. 156 on the list.
How Serhiy Karabuta became a people's deputy
Serhiy Karabuta became a member of parliament in Ukraine after Ruslan Kravets resigned his mandate. Although this move largely went unnoticed, Karabuta's declaration conceals more than just a political career. This new member of parliament has significant assets and very large amounts of cash, the origin of which certainly raises questions.
The first thing worth noting is his real estate. Karabuta owns at least 10 apartments in Kyiv, and most of them (according toYouControl) — in a residential complex on Peremohy Avenue. These aren't just one-bedroom apartments: there are eight of them in the complex. The average price of an apartment in this area is 516,000 hryvnias. This means that Sergey has approximately 4,1 million hryvnias in these properties alone. And that's not all: there are also apartments and parking spaces in residential complexes on Demiivska and Vozdukhoflotskyi Streets, where a single apartment costs up to 4 million hryvnias. In total, his family owns 19 properties.

But it's not just the real estate that's surprising. Karabuta's asset declaration also includes an Audi Q7 (2016), valued at UAH 776,255, and an Audi E-Tron (2020), valued at UAH 884,068.

Karabuta has over $240,000 in cash, as well as 1,2 million hryvnias and 107,000 euros. How and where did this money come from, if the official income declaration only lists his salary from Tropicana Travel, which amounts to 92,000 hryvnias per month?

In addition, his company, Tropicana Travel, where he worked before, appears in the SBU criminal case regarding the illegal smuggling of people across the border. Although Karabuta himself is not involved in the case, such connections raise questions about the possible sources of his income.
His connections to businessmen whose names may raise further questions cannot be overlooked. One of the co-owners of his company is Ivan Kulik, whose activities also attract the attention of law enforcement agencies due to administrative violations.

All these figures and facts together paint a picture that cannot be ignored. How did Karabuta amass such property and wealth if his business was not so profitable? And will his business activities and questionable financial connections cast a shadow over his political career? Time will tell.
