Tigipko is considering the wagon-building business
TAS Group owner Serhiy Tigipko rarely appears in public. However, this year he was one of the speakers at the Kyiv International Economic Forum, which took place in the capital on November 17, writes NVAmong other things, he spoke about his industrial projects, reports Ukrrudprom.
About investments in Dniprometiz
I just arrived from Dnipro: the hardware plant is getting ready to receive seven mills from Italy. A copper-plating line from Sweden. This was all planned before the war; we made an advance payment, and we're still going strong. When they talk about five years for restoration... In a year, we'll be doing more than we did before February 24th.
The first is export. Today, I see that businesses that were primarily focused on the domestic market are a problem. The second is diversification. There was a lot of theoretical talk about whether it's better to have one business or invest in different ones. We have industrial, financial, and agricultural sectors. Diversification has worked.
And thirdly: we need to hold more reserves. I held and still hold them, but not that much. We're still buying. If we had more reserves, we'd have more opportunities.
Tigipko on the buyout of shares from partners
We bought out shares in Poltavavagon, formerly Poltavakhimmash. Our partners were from Azovmash. They lost their production facilities in Azov (Mariupol) and couldn't sustain the project. While they're still suffering losses, that's okay. We'll get it back to normal. The second buyout involved our partner in Dneprovagonmash.
Tigipko on a railcar-building joint venture in Europe
We're even signing good agreements with Europeans today—I see opportunities for cooperation. Specifically, in railcar manufacturing. We've signed a startup with two major European companies to build innovative railcars in Europe—modular designs. You have a platform, and you practically put a body on it, and everything [the railcar's purpose] changes.
Until the regulator's decision, we can't name our partners. This happened during the war, although they initially refused. According to the business plan, this startup will produce 100 railcars per month. I'll be able to manufacture them at Dneprovagonmash, transport them to Europe, and assemble them.
