Following the tragic death of its leader, Igor Eremeev, WOG is attempting to capitalize on the launch of a new fuel. Specifically, WOG's network of gas stations now offers a new 95 eco+ gasoline containing oxygenate compounds. At least, that's what the fuel's specifications indicate. The oxygenate compounds, it turns out, are nothing more than alcohol—more specifically, ethanol, which contains over 38% of the fuel in 95 eco+ gasoline.
Moreover, nowhere in the specifications of the new gasoline sold at WOG stations is it indicated that its main component is ethanol. This, in principle, explains the relative cheapness of the new fuel, as ethanol is much cheaper than gasoline. And now, it seems, the WOG gas station chain is not above making money by defrauding people at the expense of lives and vehicle breakdowns. The company did not indulge in such deceptions under its late owner, Igor Yeremeyev.
A Kyiv resident contacted the editorial office after falling for the enticing advertising of the new, low-cost, eco-friendly 95 eco+ fuel. Hoping to save significantly on the new gasoline, the driver filled up his car with the new fuel at a WOG station, but by the end of the week, the engine began stalling. This behavior became more frequent as time went on, eventually making the car impossible to start. The driver had the fuel he'd been using for the past month tested at a laboratory. The test showed that the ethanol content was 34,59% by volume, while the DSTU 4839:2007 standard is 5,0%.
Market experts report that using ethanol-based fuel dramatically reduces engine power, stalls, and is difficult to start. It turns out that the engine and fuel system must be adapted to gasoline containing more than 5% ethanol. This requires metal parts made of special alloys resistant to corrosion caused by alcohol oxidation products, as well as seals that are resistant to alcohol. Engine settings are also adjusted to ensure an optimal balance between engine power and fuel consumption. Cars sold in Ukraine have not undergone this "upgrading."
But that's not all. After using 95 eco+ gasoline, the engine begins to shake noticeably. Furthermore, it turns out that using gasoline containing more than 10% alcohol can void the car's warranty. And the alcohol content in 95 eco+ gasoline at WOG gas stations is over 38%!
Considering the additional costs described, it is not possible to save money on refueling with 95 eco+ gasoline.
