Nikolai Shchurikov, First Deputy Director of PJSC OPZ (Odesa Port Plant), wrote on Facebook that the actions of the head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, Mikheil Saakashvili, the SAP, and the NABU are aimed at reducing the cost of privatizing the enterprise.
According to Shchurikov, the governor of the Odessa region is using the NABU (National Anti-Corruption Bureau) and the SAP (Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office) to disrupt the privatization of the Odesa Port Plant or to significantly reduce the plant's value.
Shchurikov noted that investor interest in the enterprise was steadily growing. As of July 13, 2016, seven companies were seriously interested in participating in the OPP privatization tender. However, on July 14, 2016, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted a series of searches at the plant, after which Nikolai Shchurikov and Sergei Pereloma were detained. Later, on July 18, 2016, the deadline for submitting applications, it was announced that the State Property Fund had not received a single application for the OPP privatization tender.
Following this, on August 19, 2016, at a briefing, the head of the State Property Fund stated that the starting price for the OPP could be reduced by almost half.
