The head of the Kyiv District Administrative Court (KDC) Pavlo Vovk filed a complaint against Ukraine with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), the publication reports. Capital, which has an official document.
The publication notes that in his statement, Vovk discloses a conflict with the NABU that began back in 2016. According to the controversial judge, the NABU orchestrated a public campaign against him, using criminal case materials for its own PR and to discredit him.
"In particular, it is noted that in July 2019, NABU published information on its website about the pending criminal case against Pavlo Vovk, including recordings of conversations obtained through covert surveillance. The publication was accompanied by commentary explaining the circumstances of the alleged offenses as if NABU's accusations were based on already proven facts.
Another similar publication appeared in July 2020.
Judge Vovk complains that these NABU statements, based on unproven accusations, violated his presumption of innocence. He also claims that these publications violated his right to privacy and damaged his reputation.
The plaintiff also claims that he has no effective legal remedies against such actions by NABU in Ukraine.
At the same time, according to Pavlo Vovk, NABU's goal was not to inform the public, but rather to damage his reputation, put pressure on the judicial system, and create an image of NABU as an effective agency," the publication writes.
The case officially registered by the ECHR is entitled “Pavel Vovk v. Ukraine” and has the number 54353/20.
The judge filed the application on January 13, 2021.
