The Pechersky District Court of Moscow lifted the freeze on the accounts of Akhmetov's company, Naftogazvydobuvannya, located in six Ukrainian banks. This was announced in court rulings issued on December 21 and December 30, 2015. The freeze was also lifted on hydrocarbons produced by the company at wells in the Semirenkovskoye and Machukhskoye gas fields.
In court, Akhmetov's company's lawyers demonstrated that the size of the frozen accounts of the Neftegazdobycha company was not comparable to the damage caused to the state by his company's tax evasion.
At the second court hearing, the prosecutor stated that there was no longer any need to extend the seizure of hydrocarbons belonging to Akhmetov's company. Furthermore, the lawyers stated that the seizure of the extracted gas would hinder Naftogazdobycha's business operations.
At the first and second hearings, the court agreed with the arguments presented and lifted the freeze on all accounts and on the frozen hydrocarbons of the gas production company.
As a reminder, the accounts of the company Naftogazdobycha were frozen in mid-June 2015. At the same time, the court seized liquefied gas extracted from the wells of the Machukhskoye and Semirenkovskoye fields, both located in the Poltava region.
Naftogazvydobuvannya is known to be Ukraine's largest private gas production company, with a controlling stake in it held by Rinat Akhmetov's holding company, DTEK.
In the late 90s, the right to develop the Machukhske and Semirenkivske fields was awarded to a company owned by current President Petro Poroshenko and former Transport Minister Mykola Rudkovsky. In the 2000s, when Poroshenko joined opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko, his stake in the company was transferred to Nestor Shufrych.
