Gennady Butkevich, ATB
On September 7, 2014, in the village of Bily Bereg, Ivankivsky District, Kyiv Oblast, the armored vehicle of Gennady Butkevich, co-owner of the ATB corporation, was shot at. The main theory behind the incident is that it was staged, according to our publication's sources in the Ivankivsky District Department of Internal Affairs.
The incident occurred at the exit of a hunting lodge owned by Butkevich. Denis Belyaev, the businessman's driver, was in Butkevich's GMC, license plate AE 0077 AT.
According to the victim's explanation, he stopped to remove an obstacle from the road, after which shots from an automatic weapon were heard.
In total, the investigative team that arrived at the scene found 42 5,45mm AKM cartridges. The driver, who was outside the vehicle at the time, was not injured.
Experts have a number of questions regarding what happened.
In particular, law enforcement is interested in why the attacker or attackers used a deliberately weak weapon to shoot at the armored vehicle.
Investigators "admire" the strong moral and willpower qualities of the driver, who, immediately after the shooting stopped, despite the potential danger, did not leave the car at the scene of the incident, but continued driving.
Moreover, the victim did not go to the checkpoint of a nearby hunting farm, but to the Ivankov city police department, which is located 10 km from the scene of the incident.
The head of the Ivankovsky District Department of Internal Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Radchenko, has had a long-standing friendship with Butkevich.
"This looks very much like another staged incident. Over the past six months, the police department has received five complaints from Mr. Butkevich. One can only speculate about the true motives behind this respectable member of society's strange behavior," law enforcement officials commented in surprise.
