The court of first instance has succeeded in obtaining the names of the judges who, for several years, "covered up" Serhiy Garnets, the former head of the land management department of the Main Directorate of Architecture of the Kyiv City Council, from going to prison.
The latter was caught accepting a $16 bribe in 2009, but was released after two court rulings. Serhiy Garnets unabashedly accepted illicit benefits in exchange for his signature on land management documents, which were delivered directly to his office on Khreshchatyk.
The decision to exonerate the bribe-taker was made by Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi District Court on November 15, 2012, and the Court of Appeal upheld it. A request from journalists to disclose the names of the judges who made the decision and spared Serhiy Garnets from prison was received: Appeal Court Judges Lyubov Lukyanets, Oleksandr Cherny, and Margarita Vasilyeva.
As a reminder, since the hearing of this case, the courts have changed the sentence four times, sometimes sending him to prison, sometimes acquitting him. As of today, Sergei Garnets remains in prison.
